What we know about you, and why.
A delivery on MyRoute involves two people rather than a company, so it matters that you know exactly what is shared, with whom, and for how long.
The short version: we collect what is needed to match a parcel to a traveller and to confirm the handoff. The other user sees your first name, photo, verification status and route — and, once you both agree to the match, a contact number for the handoff window. We do not sell your data.
The clauses below are the full version, and they are what governs. Read them alongside our terms and conditions.
1. Who we are and what this covers
MyRoute is operated by MyRoute Technologies Private Limited ("MyRoute", "we", "us"). This policy covers the MyRoute apps, this website and the services we provide through them, and explains what we collect, why we collect it, who sees it and what you can ask us to do about it.
MyRoute is a marketplace. We connect senders who have a parcel with travellers who are already making that journey. We do not operate vehicles and we do not carry parcels ourselves, which shapes most of what follows: the information we hold is the information needed to match two people on a route and to confirm a handoff.
2. What we collect
Information you give us
- Account details — your name, email address, mobile number and password, plus a profile photo if you add one.
- Verification details — government ID, a selfie for a liveness check, and the result of that check. We keep the outcome and a reference; we do not need to keep the raw document longer than the check requires.
- Trip and parcel details — origin, destination, dates, mode of travel, what is in the parcel, its size and weight, and any handling notes.
- Payment details — handled by our payment providers. We receive a confirmation and the last few digits of the instrument, never the full card or bank credentials.
- Messages and support tickets — what you send to another user through the app, and what you send to us.
Information we collect automatically
- Device and app data — device model, operating system, app version, language, crash reports and diagnostics.
- Usage data — the screens you open, the routes you search, and what you tapped, so we can tell which parts of the product are working.
- Location — only with your permission, and only to show nearby routes, suggest pickup points and confirm a handoff happened where it was meant to. You can turn it off in your device settings; parts of matching will stop working.
- Cookies and similar technologies on this website — see our cookie policy.
3. How we use it
- To create and run your account, and to keep you signed in.
- To match a parcel to a traveller already going that way, and to show each side enough to decide.
- To take payment, release it after a confirmed handoff, and handle refunds.
- To confirm handoffs, including the code or confirmation step at pickup and delivery.
- To verify identity, detect fraud, and keep prohibited items and repeat offenders off the platform.
- To answer support requests and investigate reports of misuse.
- To send service messages about a trip or parcel — these are not marketing and you cannot opt out of them while a delivery is live.
- To send you product news, if you asked for it. Every such message has an unsubscribe link.
- To understand how the product is used in aggregate, and to fix and improve it.
- To meet legal, tax and regulatory obligations, and to respond to lawful requests.
We do not sell your personal information, and we do not share it with advertisers to target you elsewhere.
4. Why we are allowed to use it
Depending on where you are, we rely on one or more of the following: performing the contract you entered into when you created an account; your consent, for things like location and marketing, which you can withdraw at any time; our legitimate interests in keeping the platform safe, preventing fraud and improving the service; and compliance with a legal obligation.
Where we rely on consent, withdrawing it stops the future use — it does not undo processing that already, lawfully, happened.
5. What other users can see
This is the part worth reading twice, because a delivery involves another person rather than a company.
- Before a match is agreed, the other side sees your first name, profile photo, verification status, rating and route — not your contact details or full address.
- Once a match is agreed, each side sees what is needed to complete the handoff: the pickup and drop-off point, a contact number for the handoff window, and the parcel description.
- After delivery, contact details stop being shown. Ratings and reviews stay visible.
Anything you choose to type into a message or a public review is visible to the other user, so treat it as you would any message to a stranger.
7. How long we keep it
We keep personal information for as long as your account is open, and after that only for as long as we have a reason to.
- Account and profile data — deleted or anonymised after your account is closed, subject to the items below.
- Delivery and transaction records — kept for the period required by tax and accounting law.
- Verification results — kept while your account is open, and afterwards only where needed to stop a banned account being recreated.
- Safety reports and dispute records — kept for as long as needed to resolve them and to protect other users.
- Diagnostics and aggregate usage data — kept in a form that no longer identifies you.
8. How we protect it
Traffic is encrypted in transit, data is encrypted at rest, access inside MyRoute is limited to staff who need it for their job, and access is logged. Payment credentials never reach our servers.
No system is perfect. If a breach affects you, we will tell you and the relevant authority within the timeframes the law sets. On your side: use a password you have not used elsewhere, keep the app updated, and tell us straight away at [email protected] if you think someone else is using your account.
9. Your rights
Subject to local law, you can ask us to:
- Give you a copy of the personal information we hold about you.
- Correct anything that is wrong or out of date.
- Delete your account and the data attached to it.
- Stop or limit a particular use, including profiling.
- Withdraw a consent you previously gave, such as location or marketing.
- Port your data to another service in a machine-readable format.
- Nominate someone to exercise these rights if you are unable to.
Write to [email protected] and we will respond within 3 working days. We may need to verify who you are first. If you are not satisfied with the outcome, you can escalate to our grievance officer at [email protected], or complain to your local data protection authority.
10. Children
MyRoute is for people aged 18 and over. We do not knowingly collect information from children. If you believe a child has created an account, tell us at [email protected] and we will remove it.
12. Where your data goes
We are based in India and some of our service providers are not. Where personal information is transferred outside your country, we rely on the safeguards the law allows — such as standard contractual clauses or an adequacy decision — so the protection travels with the data.
13. Changes to this policy
We update this policy when the product or the law changes. The date at the top always reflects the current version. If a change materially affects you, we will tell you in the app or by email before it takes effect.
